Loki promises to turn over new leaf in first trailer

Loki
(Tom Hiddleston)

Disney and Marvel Studios just keep the fun going. Coming on the heels of this weekend’s Black Widow trailer comes the debut trailer for Thor’s half-brother, Loki.

When we last saw Loki, a past version of him stole the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. He disappeared into parts unknown.

Now the imperious God of Mischief is a fish-out-of-water when he lands in a world of trouble with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variance Authority) in the brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ Loki.

And there’s a nifty new poster.

There’s been a lot of chatter about who Gugu Mbatha-Raw will be playing and her character’s identity has finally been confirmed.

The first teaser suggested that the Beauty and the Best actress had been cast as the head of the Time Variance Authority, but following the release of today’s full trailer, Marvel has revealed her name: Judge Renslayer.

While there’s always a chance this is a new character with the same surname, this is almost certainly Ravona Renslayer, aka Terminatrix. In the comics, Ravona was the time-travelling former ruler of Chronopolis and an enemy/ally/lover of Kang the Conqueror.

Since we know that Kang will be introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, there is a chance Loki will end up tying into the Marvel Studios sequel.

Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer.

The all-new, original series debuts exclusively on Disney+ on June 11, 2021.
