John Lewis animated holiday film is magical

(Reel Ad of the Week comes via John Lewis)

We always say if you want a Reel Ad of the Week tag, make the Reel 360 Team laugh, cry or think. And that’s exactly (not surprising at all) what the latest John Lewis Holiday ad does. In fact, it accomplishes all three.

The John Lewis Christmas film has become one of the traditions of the season and it never disappoints like you know… fruitcake. The new effort was created by Adam&EveDDB.

Set to an original song by Brit Award Winner Celeste called Give a Little Love, the beautiful two-minute film begins with a young boy whose football has become stuck in a tree. Using nine animated vignettes by eight different artists, each depicting an act of kindness which inspires the recipient to pay it forward.

The spot finally ends, back on the roundabout in Orpington with the young boy and the message ‘Give A Little Love’ written in the sky above, while an animated plane flies overhead. Grab a tissue and watch the film, created by Adam&EveDDB below:

Behind the Scenes

Filming took place on the roundabout in Friar Road, Orpington, Bromley. With production parking in Goddington Park, Orpington, while the nearby church hall was used as a holding area. The local houses and postbox were dressed with Christmas decorations and fake snow was added to give it a traditional Christmas fee.

This year’s  film, which currently has 3.5 million views on YouTube, also aims to help at least 100,000 struggling families  with food, comfort and emotional support. It aims to raise £5 million for charities FareShare and Home-Start.

Rhian Sharpe, general manager at FilmFixer adds: “Bromley Film Office in partnership with Bromley Council are happy to announce their involvement with 2020’s John Lewis/Waitrose and Partners Christmas Campaign. A first for the London Borough of Bromley, it was a pleasure working with the locations and creative teams to help produce a campaign with such a wonderful message as we come to the end of a difficult 2020.”
