Howard Stern will reveal all… just not yet. The host had been slated to return to his SiriusXM show on Tuesday, September 2, after weeks of promos promised a big reveal amid speculation that the show was on the verge of cancellation.
Early Tuesday, The Howard Stern Show social accounts announced a change of plans: “Howard Stern will now speak Monday, September 8,” adding, “stay tuned.”
The delay follows a month of headlines questioning Stern’s future after a tabloid report claimed SiriusXM and Stern were unlikely to reach a new deal. Stern then leaned into the chatter with a promo that ran on SiriusXM: “The tabloids have spoken: Howard Stern fired, canceled, is it really ‘Bye-Bye Booey’? Chaos is swirling. Did staffers talk to the press? Are writers withholding their best jokes? Nobody knows what’s going on or who to trust. Now we can reveal that all the questions will be answered, all the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside. Howard Stern will speak on Tuesday, September 2.”
Stern has been the centerpiece of SiriusXM since January 2006, when he launched Howard 100 and Howard 101 after leaving terrestrial radio. His arrival was a watershed moment for satellite radio’s growth, followed by renewals in 2010, 2015 and 2020. The most recent pact expanded his presence across streaming and video, and helped cement SiriusXM’s talk and entertainment strategy over nearly two decades.
Stern’s future has been questioned before, and he has historically found a way to stay on the air. The unexpected push to September 8 extends the uncertainty around any new SiriusXM agreement, keeping listeners waiting for answers.
