HBO is keeping Westeros burning for at least three more years. During a press presentation in New York, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, officially confirmed long-term renewals for the two ongoing Game of Thrones franchise series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, extending the universe’s run through 2028.
The half-hour drama A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which follows the unlikely adventures of Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and the young Targaryen prince Egg, has been renewed for Season 2 ahead of its series debut on January 18, 2026 at 10 PM ET/PT. The sophomore season is slated to arrive in 2027.
HBO also reconfirmed that House of the Dragon Season 3 will land in summer 2026, and has already ordered Season 4 for a 2028 premiere — ensuring the Targaryen civil war will remain a summer staple for the foreseeable future.
Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, emphasized the importance of keeping George R. R. Martin’s universe thriving: “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years. Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg. And this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
