Hall H meets Marvel’s first family – The Fantastic Four

The Fantastic Four

Yesterday in Hall H at SDCC, the heat for The Fantastic Four movie grew hotter with the reveal of its official title, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Filmmaker Matt Shakman (WandaVision), speaking onstage, announced that shooting would begin the following week. He teased that the film would be inspired by a retro-future version of New York and showcased a 1960s-style science film, hinting at the team’s origins while highlighting the humanity and personality of the characters.

While it was implied that the cast was in London preparing for the shoot, Marvel Studios had a surprise in store. Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing) made a dramatic appearance onstage.

“We are all collectively going to bring an essence that is a family,” said Quinn. “Rather than thinking about what individually we are going to bring, it’s a team sport. We are going to work very hard to bring a feeling of family to this film.”

Among the exciting revelations was a glimpse of the Fantasticar, the team’s iconic flying vehicle from the comics. A model version of the Fantasticar flew across the stage, symbolizing the cast’s “flight” to London for their shoot. Watch below:

The Fantastic Four are already a hot topic, thanks to a special tie-in with the multiverse-spanning Deadpool & Wolverine. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to open on July 25, 2025.
