The American Film Institute (AFI) has unveiled its choice for the Guest Artistic Director of AFI FEST 2023, and it’s none other than the Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actress Greta Gerwig. With a remarkable career that spans both behind and in front of the camera, Gerwig’s appointment has generated significant excitement in the film industry and among movie enthusiasts.
Gerwig’s most recent directorial triumph, Barbie which she also co-wrote, took the world by storm, shattering box office records and earning widespread critical acclaim. In addition to her directorial successes, Gerwig’s adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless classic, Little Women garnered six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, with an individual nod for Gerwig for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Not only has Gerwig made her mark behind the camera, but she has also delivered standout performances in films such as Greenberg, where she starred alongside Ben Stiller, and critically acclaimed movies like Frances Ha which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Comedy or Musical.
