Gravitas Ventures has successfully acquired the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights for the compelling World War II drama, Bardejov, directed by Danny A. Abeckaser.

The film boasts a stellar cast featuring Robert Davi, Danny A. Abeckaser, Kyle Stefanski, Dean Miroshnikov, Darren Weiss Omer Hazan, and Emil A. Fish, among other talented actors.

Penned by Shmuel Lynn and helmed by Abeckaser, Bardejov is set to hit theaters and Video On Demand (VOD) platforms in March 2024. The production has also been submitted to various prestigious film festivals. The narrative delves into the experiences of Emil Fish and the Jewish community in Bardejov during 1942, delivering a historically accurate account of their plight during World War II.

Executive produced by Yoav Gross and produced by Holocaust survivor Emil A. Fish, the film aims to shed light on the harsh realities of the Holocaust without sugarcoating the grim details.

Abeckaser, a renowned director, producer, and actor born in Israel and raised in New York, expressed his honor in directing a film of such profound importance. He emphasized the film’s mission to educate audiences of all cultures about the unjust treatment of Jews during the Holocaust, offering an unfiltered perspective from someone who lived through those harrowing events.

The announcement was made by Gravitas Ventures, positioning the film as a significant addition to their portfolio. Bill Guentzler, Vice President of Acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures, underscored the pride in bringing the story of Bardejov to North American audiences. He highlighted the film’s commitment to providing a historically accurate retelling of the atrocities that transpired in the Slovak village during World War II.

Negotiations for the distribution deal were successfully handled by Bill Guentzler, with Paul Davidson representing the filmmakers. The film’s score, a crucial element in conveying its emotional depth, is composed by the award-winning Lionel Cohen.

In addition to the acquisition news, the announcement touched upon Abeckaser’s other projects, including the imminent Netflix debut of The Engineer on Christmas Day. The film, shot entirely in Israel with local production companies and actors, had an initial release in August 2023 on platforms such as iTunes, Amazon, VOD, and theaters. It stars Robert Davi and Emile Hirsch, alongside actors from the acclaimed Fauda cast.

The film’s powerful narrative and Abeckaser’s dedication to authenticity promise a thought-provoking cinematic experience for viewers.
