Even The Last Son of Krypton sits to put his shoes on. The iconic red and blue suit of Superman finds a new wearer as actor David Corenswet steps into the role in James Gunn’s upcoming film. A first look at Corenswet in costume was unveiled by Gunn on social media, sparking excitement among fans of the superhero genre.

For Corenswet, known for his work in television on shows like The Politician and Hollywood, the opportunity to portray Superman marks a significant milestone in his career. Transitioning from the small screen to one of the most iconic roles in cinematic history, Corenswet is poised to reach new heights of fame and recognition.

The reactions on Social have been mixed, ranging from hate to love. This is to be expected with so much passion still existing for Henry Cavill and even Tyler Hoechlin. The suit, heavily inspired by 2011’s “The New 52” definitely does not look homemade and seems alien. While sitting, it’s clear that this newest version of the Man of Steel will have the superhero’s iconic red trunks. Where do we fall? Somewhere in between.

The unveiling of a new actor as Superman is a rare event, akin to the anticipation surrounding the introduction of a new James Bond. With only a handful of actors having portrayed the character on the big screen, including Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, each iteration brings its own unique interpretation to the beloved superhero.

Gunn’s film marks Corenswet’s debut as Superman and serves as the inaugural installment in DC Studios’ new universe and slate. As the superhero genre faces evolving challenges, the success of this film will be closely watched by industry insiders and fans alike. Gunn, known for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, brings his signature style and storytelling prowess to the world of iconic superheroes, promising an exciting and fresh take on the Man of Steel.

The James Gunn-directed (and written) film stars Corenswet as Kal-El/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Rounding out the cast are Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Additionally, Nicholas Hoult has been confirmed by Gunn to portray Lex Luthor in the film. Milly Alcock was also recently cast as Supergirl and is also expected (but unconfirmed) to appear in Legacy, as well. More recently Pruitt Taylor Vince was cast as Jonathan ‘Pa’ Kent, while Neva Howell signed on to play Martha ‘Ma’ Kent.

Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy Superman is the first film in Gunn’s reboot of the DCEU.
