Yacht Club has recently welcomed filmmaker Danielle Calodney to their team. Calodney has gained recognition for her distinctive, energetic, and humorous advertisements for brands such as Jack in the Box, Snickers, Hostess, and Twix (via The&Partnership), earning her the title of the “poppy, joyful” queen of comedy in the advertising industry.
The collaboration between Calodney and Yacht Club began with a project for Bushmills via Mekanism, where real sheep took over a bar outside of New York City to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in 2023. Subsequently, Calodney directed a direct-to-client project for San Francisco-based Honeybook, collaborating with Yacht Club partner Matt Morgan, who handled the tabletop aspects and served as DP for Calodney’s live-action segments.
One of Calodney’s strengths is her ability to seamlessly blend scripted lifestyle and comedy with food, earning her the moniker of a “bite and smile” wizard. Her work is characterized by thoughtful art direction, hilarious performances, and tantalizing food visuals.
Yacht Club Partner/EP Joe DePasquale praised Calodney’s work, stating, “Danielle incorporates thoughtful art direction and hilarious performances while also capturing delicious-looking food – it is a perfect blend of skills for a shop like ours.” He emphasized that Calodney’s creative vision aligns perfectly with Yacht Club’s ethos of collaboration and creativity.
Calodney expressed her enthusiasm for joining Yacht Club, highlighting the warm and inclusive atmosphere of the team. She believes that filmmaking should be a joyful experience, and she looks forward to contributing her unique perspective to the company’s projects.
