Yesterday, the Television Academy announced its nominees for the 71st Emmy nominations.

TBWA\Media Arts Lab, with two Apple spots, leads all agencies nominated for 2019 Outstanding Commercial noms. The other brands are Netflix, Nike and nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise.

This year, Apple is nominated for “Make Something Wonderful” from the Behind the Mac campaign and “Don’t Mess With Mother,” a Shot on iPhone spot that launched on Earth Day this past April

Last year the agency, which has never won an Emmy, was also nominated for its “Shot on iPhone” spot.

Also nominated was 2018’s most controversial ad, Nike’s “Dream Crazy” starring Colin Kaepernick from Wieden + Kennedy Portland.

Wieden, which has won two Emmys, has not been nominated since 2013’s Nike “Jogger” spot. Park Pictures has been nominated five times.

Sandy Hook Promise’s “Point of View,” which continued agency BBDO New York’s years-long series of attention-grabbing, long-form PSAs, was also nominated.

MJZ, Production Company

BBDO, which leads all agencies overall with 14 nominations, won last year’s Emmy for P&G’s outstanding, “The Talk.” The agency was also nominated for an anti-bullying spot featuring Monica Lewinsky. MJZ has 19 nominations and five wins.

Netflix’s “A Great Day in Hollywood,” from creative agency Kamp Grizzly, rounded out the five nominations with its celebration of the film industry’s blossoming appreciation for diversity

Pretty Bird, Production Company

This is Kamp Grizzly’s first nomination. But one can’t help but wonder with Netflix already gunning for TVs and movies, are commercials next?

The actual 71st Emmys will air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 22, starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Fox. Look for Reel 360’s report.
