e.l.f. Cosmetics is turning one of beauty’s most common frustrations into a horror-comedy campaign with “Unglammy Valley,” a new push for its Soft Glam Satin Foundation starring actress Sara Waisglass.

The campaign, from 72andsunny Amsterdam, riffs on the “uncanny valley” phenomenon, dramatizing the very real nightmare of foundation gone wrong – cakey texture, mismatched shades and that moment when the entire look suddenly feels off.

The insight is straightforward: if the base is wrong, everything is wrong.

According to e.l.f., 66% of consumers still rely on trial and error to find the right foundation shade, giving the brand plenty of material to turn that frustration into something darker and funnier.

Waisglass brings the campaign to life with quick wit and exaggerated panic as a bad foundation choice tips the day into full beauty-horror territory. The rescue comes in the form of e.l.f.’s Soft Glam Satin Foundation, a medium-buildable coverage formula available in 36 shades.

The product creates a natural-looking satin finish with a subtle glow and includes 1% Hydrating Hibiscus Complex, along with guava, blueberry, and goji berry extracts. Watch below:

At $8 in the U.S., e.l.f. is once again leaning into its long-running combination of trend-driven creative and accessible pricing.

“Finding the right foundation is a universal struggle,” said Oshiya Savur, Chief Marketing Officer of e.l.f. Brands. “Understanding undertones, finding the right shade, the right coverage, the right formula – a true nightmare.”

Savur said the campaign grew directly out of feedback from the brand’s community. “Our community essentially handed us this idea, so we took their very real foundation fears and turned it on its head in the kind of over-the-top humor e.l.f. is known for.”

The launch also includes a new partnership with Alta, the AI-powered virtual closet named one of TIME’s Best Inventions.

e.l.f. becomes the first beauty brand on the platform, with its Soft Glam collection integrated into Alta’s digital wardrobe experience. The idea is to extend outfit planning beyond clothes, allowing Alta to recommend e.l.f. products that complement a user’s look.

That adds another layer beyond awareness, linking beauty products to a broader AI-powered styling experience.

The campaign is rolling out across TV, streaming and OTT, YouTube, social, influencer extensions and immersive activations in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Germany.

For e.l.f., the creative equation is simple:

Bad foundation is horror.

The right match is the escape.
