Thank you for the very early Christmas present, Sony Pictures. It seems Sony is getting a late jump on pushing Spider-Man: No Way Home for awards other than the typical blockbuster categories. The only other superhero film to receive a Best Picture nod was Marvel’s Black Panther in 2019.
But Spider-Man: No Way Home is more than a blockbuster. It’s a great blockbuster that deserves every penny it’s webbed up. And that is due to writers Chris McKenna’s and Erik Sommers’ screenplay. Their work mixed fantastic action with genuine, heartfelt and earned drama.
As of today, the critically acclaimed Jon Watts-directed blockbuster has grossed over $1.693 billion worldwide ($721M domestic; $972M foreign) without China, and is still leading the box office. This figure will still swing quite a bit higher before the film makes its way to digital and blu-ray.
Tom Holland headlines the Jon Watts-directed blockbuster with a supporting cast consisting of Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Hannibal Buress as Coach Wilson, Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington, J.B. Smoove as Mr. Dell, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Master Wong, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Thomas Haden Church (Sandman), Rhys Ifans (Lizard), and Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock) reprise their roles from the previous Spider-Man films and the Daredevil TV series,
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters worldwide!
