Thank you for the very early Christmas present, Sony Pictures. It seems Sony is getting a late jump on pushing Spider-Man: No Way Home for awards other than the typical blockbuster categories. The only other superhero film to receive a Best Picture nod was Marvel’s Black Panther in 2019.

But Spider-Man: No Way Home is more than a blockbuster. It’s a great blockbuster that deserves every penny it’s webbed up. And that is due to writers Chris McKenna’s and Erik Sommers’ screenplay. Their work mixed fantastic action with genuine, heartfelt and earned drama.

As of today, the critically acclaimed Jon Watts-directed blockbuster has grossed over $1.693 billion worldwide ($721M domestic; $972M foreign) without China, and is still leading the box office. This figure will still swing quite a bit higher before the film makes its way to digital and blu-ray.
