TIME magazine has named President-elect Donald Trump as its 2024 Person of the Year, marking a historic comeback as he prepares to take office for a second term. The announcement comes as Trump continues to dominate the political landscape, sparking both intense loyalty and fierce criticism across the nation and the world.
Living in the ‘Age of Trump’
In his letter to readers, TIME Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs explained the rationale behind the selection:
“On the cusp of his second presidency, all of us—from his most fanatical supporters to his most fervent critics—are living in the Age of Trump. He has remade American politics in the process. He won by enlarging his base, seizing the frustration over rising prices, and benefiting from a global turn against incumbents.”
Jacobs added, “For marshaling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency and altering America’s role in the world, Donald Trump is TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year.”

An Exclusive Look into Trump’s Vision
The accompanying cover story by Eric Cortellessa, featuring insights from an exclusive interview at Mar-a-Lago, highlights Trump’s strongman vision and his promises to overhaul federal systems. Cortellessa writes, “Trump saw a nation ready to smash [the norms of liberal democracy], tapping into a growing sense that the system was rigged. If America was craving change, it is about to see how much Trump can deliver.”
The feature also explores Trump’s controversial plans, including large-scale deportations, dismantling parts of the federal government, and pursuing what he calls “revenge” against political adversaries.
Other Honors in the Issue
TIME also announced the 2024 recipients of its other annual titles:
- Athlete of the Year: Caitlin Clark, college basketball superstar, known for redefining the game with her remarkable skills and on-court leadership.
- CEO of the Year: Lisa Su, the groundbreaking leader of AMD, whose innovations have reshaped the tech industry.
- Icon of the Year: Elton John, music legend and cultural icon, recognized for his profound impact on global culture during his farewell tour.
