DC cancels Red Hood after writer’s posts about Charlie Kirk

Red Hood

DC Comics has pulled the plug on its newly launched Red Hood series after writer Gretchen Felker-Martin posted about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death on social media.

Kirk, a close ally of former President Donald Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on Wednesday during a campus event in Utah. Shortly after, Felker-Martin allegedly shared since-deleted posts, circulated via screenshots, making light of the shooting, including the line, “Hope the bullet’s OK,” and a slur directed at Kirk.

In a statement, DC said it “places the highest value on our creators and community and affirms the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints,” but added that “posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.” Representatives for Felker-Martin and series artist Jeff Spokes did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Red Hood, centered on Jason Todd, the former Robin who operates within Gotham’s Batman mythos, hit comic shop shelves on Wednesday. DC had slated subsequent issues through next June, with a second volume planned through December 2026, according to prior release materials. Those plans are now canceled.

Kirk’s killing sparked swift, bipartisan condemnation and renewed concern over political violence. President Trump called the death “a dark moment for America,” crediting Kirk with helping mobilize young voters in his coalition.
