DaVinci International Film Festival to Honor Emile Hirsch

Emile Hirsch

The DaVinci International Film Festival will salute Emile Hirsch with its Honorary Leo Award, capping the fest at a closing ceremony Oct. 12 at AMC The Grove in Los Angeles. The annual accolade spotlights artists whose work reflects “artistic courage and human endeavor.”

“Emile Hirsch’s extraordinary career has helped define a generation of independent cinema, while also making an indelible mark in Hollywood,” said DIFF founder Chadwick Pelletier. “His powerful and nuanced performance as Joseph Bau in Bau, Artist at War showcases his remarkable ability to bring complex, inspiring characters to life. We’re honored to recognize his outstanding body of work and commitment to storytelling.”

Hirsch broke out with Sean Penn’s Into the Wild, earning a SAG Award nomination and announcing himself as one of the era’s most compelling young leads. He’s since moved fluidly between studios and indies: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie), ensemble crime caper The Comeback Trail (with Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman), the psychological sci-fi thriller Freaks, western noir Never Grow Old (with John Cusack), and Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor (alongside Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch and Ben Foster).

This year’s honor arrives on the heels of Bau, Artist at War, in which Hirsch portrays Holocaust survivor and graphic artist Joseph Bau—work that has drawn strong notices for its intensity and compassion. The recognition underscores what DIFF celebrates: performances that cut through the noise and storytellers willing to take risks.

Festival passes and individual tickets for DIFF’s seventh edition are on sale now via the DaVinci International Film Festival website.
