Assemble as your fave ‘Avenger’ in new video game

(Assemble as your favorite Avenger in highly anticipated game)

Marvel and the company behind the Final Fantasy franchise, Square-Enix have teamed up for what will for sure be a Game of The Year candidate. Get ready for Marvel’s Avengers.  Allowing players to assume their favorite Marvel Characters, including Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor, this third person adventure can also be played in Single-Player or Team-Up with up to 3 other people online and play Co-Op.

The Plot: The story begins on A-Day, where five of the founding members of the Avengers — Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hulk — are celebrating the unveiling of a second headquarters in San Francisco, including the reveal of their own Helicarrier, the Chimera, powered by a Terrigen Crystal.

The ceremony soon goes awry when a terrorist attack led by Taskmaster results in the Golden Gate Bridge and most of the city being destroyed and Captain America’s apparent death. In addition, the destruction of the Terrigen Crystal has caused the spread of Terrigen Mist, which turns countless regular people into superpowered beings known as Inhumans. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband.

Five years later, the rebuilt San Francisco is now under the control of a science-based organization called A.I.M. led by George Tarleton, and superheroes—including those who were members of the Avengers—are outlawed.

With the world in peril once more, teenager and Inhuman Kamala Khan uncovers both her new superpowers and a shocking conspiracy regarding A.I.M. She embarks on a quest to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and uncover the true culprit behind the A-Day incident.

The WalkThrough

I got to play the Beta version of the game and have to say this game will be one that takes some getting use to.  The first level was the game opener, which had me fighting off an attack on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Starting off as Thor, then seamlessly transitioning to the other Avengers as you progress though the battle, each character has their own unique moves and special abilities.

I personally enjoyed pinning enemies to walls with Mjolnir, while beating up the rest of the surrounding baddies.  The stage ended with a showdown between Black Widow and Taskmaster on top of the bridge.

Next, I was in a forest in the Pacific Northwest playing as The Hulk and joined by Kamala Khan A.K.A. Ms Marvel, as they search for J.A.R.V.I.S., which has been hidden by Tony Stark.   Playing as Hulk was pretty straight forward, smash everything in your way and ask questions later.

Playing as The Hulk was not exactly my favorite moment in the Beta.  He is big, slow and makes for an easy target.  His moves are mostly hand-to-hand based which meant the need to run up to targets while the rest of their squad unloads their weapons on you.

Square Enix has said that other Characters will be added to the game but has not mentioned if new levels will be included with them.  These Characters will include Winter Soldier, She-Hulk, Hawkeye and Spider-Man who will be a Playstation exclusive.

Square Enix also brings in some of the gaming world’s heavy hitters in voice talent for Marvel’s Avengers. Troy Baker (The Last of Us, 1000 Other Things) as Bruce Banner,  Jeff Schine (Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 3) as Captain America, Travis Willingham (Critical Role) as Thor, Laura Bailey (Uncharted 4, Critical Role) as Black Widow, and Nolan North (Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed) as Tony Stark.
