One of the most influential science fiction novels ever written is finally making its way to the screen. Apple TV+ surprised fans during its San Diego Comic-Con panel by unveiling the first teaser trailer for Neuromancer, the long-awaited adaptation of William Gibson’s groundbreaking 1984 novel that helped define the cyberpunk genre.
The first footage was introduced through a surprise virtual appearance by star Callum Turner, who leads the 10-episode series as legendary hacker Case.
The teaser doesn’t waste time explaining its world.
Instead, it plunges viewers into a rain-soaked future of neon skylines, digital landscapes, cybernetic enhancements and corporate conspiracies, capturing the gritty aesthetic that inspired decades of science fiction—from The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell to Cyberpunk 2077.
For readers of Gibson’s novel, it’s a long-awaited first look at one of the genre’s most influential worlds finally coming to life.
The Story That Defined Cyberpunk
Turner stars as Case, once one of the world’s greatest computer hackers before his career and life were shattered.
When he’s recruited for one last impossible job, he joins forces with Molly (Briana Middleton), a deadly “razor girl” whose surgically enhanced reflexes and mirrored eyes have made her one of Gibson’s most iconic creations.
Together they’re pulled into an elaborate corporate heist involving powerful dynasties, artificial intelligence and secrets capable of reshaping humanity’s future. Watch the trailer below:

If that premise sounds familiar, it’s because so much modern science fiction owes a debt to Neuromancer.
Published in 1984, Gibson’s debut novel won the Nebula Award, Philip K. Dick Award and Hugo Award, becoming one of the few science fiction novels ever to claim all three honors while establishing many of the ideas audiences now associate with cyberpunk.
Long before audiences entered the Matrix, Gibson imagined cyberspace as a vast digital frontier navigated by hackers, corporations and artificial intelligence.
A Prestigious Cast Enters the Matrix
Beyond Turner and Middleton, Apple has assembled an impressive ensemble that includes Mark Strong, Joseph Lee, Peter Sarsgaard, Clémence Poésy, Max Irons, Dane DeHaan, Emma Laird and André De Shields.
The series was created by Graham Roland and JD Dillard, with Roland serving as showrunner.
Dillard directs the first three episodes, while Gibson himself joins the project as an executive producer—an encouraging sign for longtime fans hoping the adaptation remains faithful to the novel’s vision.
The production also boasts an unexpected executive-producing team through DreamCrew Entertainment, including Drake and Future.
Finally Bringing Gibson’s Vision to the Screen
For decades, Neuromancer has been regarded as one of Hollywood’s most famously “unfilmable” novels. Numerous adaptations have entered development only to disappear before cameras rolled.
Apple’s version appears intent on embracing the novel rather than simplifying it. The teaser leans heavily into atmosphere instead of exposition, trusting viewers to absorb Gibson’s dense, immersive world rather than explaining every technological concept up front.
It’s an approach that feels remarkably faithful to the source material. If successful, Neuromancer could become Apple TV+’s next prestige science-fiction series alongside Severance, Silo, Foundation and Dark Matter.
More importantly, it finally gives the story that helped invent cyberpunk the ambitious adaptation it has waited decades to receive.
Neuromancer premieres Jan. 22, 2027, with its first two episodes streaming on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes every Friday through March 19.
