‘And Just Like That’ continues ‘Sex and the City’

HBO Max has given a series order to And Just Like That…, a new chapter of the groundbreaking HBO series, Sex and the City, from executive producer Michael Patrick King and starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.

The new Max Original series is based on the book, Sex and the City, by Candice Bushnell and the original TV series created by Darren Star. The series will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. 

The ten-episode, half-hour series is scheduled to begin production in New York late spring. Sarah Jessica Parker posted a teaser on her Instagram. “I couldn’t help but wonder, where are they now?” :

“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max. 

The series premiered in the United States on June 6, 1998, and concluded on February 22, 2004, with 94 episodes broadcast over six seasons. Throughout its development, the series received contributions from various producers, screenwriters, and directors, principally Michael Patrick King.

It received both acclaim and criticism for its subjects and characters, and is credited with helping to increase HBO’s popularity as a network. The series won several accolades, including seven of its 54 Emmy Award nominations, eight of its 24 Golden Globe Award nominations, and three of its 11 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.

The series placed fifth on Entertainment Weekly‘s “New TV Classics” list, and has been listed as one of the best television series of all time by Time in 2007 and TV Guide in 2013.
