Producer Amy Pascal is already looking beyond Spider-Man: Brand New Day, saying she hopes director Destin Daniel Cretton will remain behind the camera for future installments of the blockbuster franchise.
Speaking to SFX magazine, Pascal praised the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker for bringing a fresh perspective to Spider-Man while maintaining the emotional core that has defined Tom Holland’s version of the character.
“Destin has really blown all our minds and we hope that he will continue to make Spider-Man movies with us,” Pascal said.
She credited Cretton with balancing large-scale action with character-driven storytelling. “He’s an incredibly gifted action director, but there is not one thing in this movie that doesn’t come from emotion and heart and character,” Pascal said. “As much as we loved working with Jon, and he made a certain kind of movie, Destin has made something really special too.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world has forgotten Peter Parker’s identity. Rather than revisiting the familiar conflict of Peter struggling to balance his personal life with being Spider-Man, Pascal said the new film flips that dynamic.
“We tried to do the opposite here and give ourselves a really hard challenge, which was for Peter to be losing his humanity and choosing only to be Spider-Man, and then realising that’s not possible,” she said.
Pascal also revealed that Holland took on a larger creative role during production after portraying Peter Parker for a decade. “He’s so smart,” she said. “By the time you’re on the fourth movie and you’ve played Spider-Man for 10 years, you know who Peter is, and there can’t be a better source than him.”
She also embraced the fan speculation surrounding Stranger Things star Sadie Sink’s mysterious role in the film, comparing it to the secrecy surrounding Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“I think people love to be surprised,” Pascal said. “They don’t really want to know everything. They want the experience of what movies give you, which is shock and awe and surprise.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters later this month.
