Saturday Night Live took on the tense political climate once again, with Maya Rudolph reprising her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. Rudolph’s Harris was the focus of a Fox News interview sketch where she had to navigate a combative interviewer, portrayed by Alec Baldwin. This episode marked Baldwin’s return to the show after the dismissal of his involuntary manslaughter case in the Rust shooting incident.
Rudolph’s portrayal of Harris was sharp, with moments of humor that leaned into the vice president’s resilience. In the skit, Harris squared off against Baldwin’s character, mimicking the tense exchange Harris had with Fox News anchor Bret Baier earlier in the week.
Despite constant interruptions, Rudolph’s Harris kept her composure, even managing to slip in references to TikTok and youth slang to engage younger voters. At one point, she quipped, “See how I don’t let men interrupt my answers? Very demure. Very mindful.” Watch below:
In contrast, James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Donald Trump offered a comedic take on the former president’s recent campaign antics. Johnson’s Trump humorously walked a fine line between praising and critiquing America, stating, “America’s a place full of jerks and idiots. But we love it. It’s really bad.”
The sketch also took aim at Trump’s rally mishaps, including the October 12 rally in Coachella where attendees reportedly had to walk several miles back to their cars. Rudolph’s Harris took a jab, comparing it to “an Old Testament Fire Festival.”
This episode, hosted by Michael Keaton, with musical guest Billie Eilish, showcased SNL’s classic blend of political satire and pop culture references, with both Harris and Trump’s campaign moments offering ripe material for the cast to play off.
