A remake of Gareth Evans’ The Raid is coming to Netflix

Michael Bay and XYZ Films have announced a reimagining of Gareth Evans’ classic The Raid is heading to NetflixPatrick Hughes (The Hitman’s BodyguardThe Hitman’s Wife’s BodyguardThe Man from Toronto) will pen the film with James Beaufort and direct the feature, with Michael Bay and XYZ Films producing. 

A description from Netflix says, “In Philadelphia’s drug-infested ‘Badlands’, an elite undercover DEA task force climb a ladder of cartel informants to catch an elusive kingpin.”

“We’re incredibly excited about Patrick’s unique vision for this film. It’s a distinctly original take on the material, which promises to pay great respect to the original film while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will set its own course in the action genre,” the producers told Reel 360.

The original Raid was written and directed by Gareth Evans and released theatrically by Sony Pictures Classics in 2012 after premiering to rave reviews at TIFF and Sundance.

Gareth Evans and Range Media Partner will serve as Executive Producers on The Raid.
