Disney and Marvel Studios launched April’s CinemaCon presentation with a witty PSA featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, reminding moviegoers to silence their cellphones. Now playing in theaters, this PSA has been edited to remove the multiple F-bombs from its original version.
Initially leaked in a shorter, lower-quality format earlier this month, the full version is now available online. The teaser starts with Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) attempting to reveal to Logan (Hugh Jackman) which characters will debut in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, he is repeatedly interrupted by cellphone rings. Finally, Wolverine takes charge, breaking the fourth wall and addressing the audience directly.
“Hey, bub, you’re in a movie theater, not your grandma’s nursing home – turn off your f***king phone!” Deadpool then quips about how Wolverine’s aggressive tone makes his “d*ck vibrate,” and adds, “Nice fourth wall break, didn’t think ya had it in ya!” The clip concludes with Wolverine telling Deadpool to “shut his mouth” – with one final F-bomb, and potentially a C-bomb, for good measure. A Second PSA
The other PSA features the incomparable June Squibb from the hilarious indie film Thelma, which opens in theaters at the end of June. This video is an Alamo Drafthouse creation, which just announced the closing of six theaters, continuing their tradition of making PSAs with celebrities for new releases.
It begins pleasantly enough, but the talented actress pivots and lets you know how she feels about phones ringing during a film. “I have a very particular set of skills… Skills I have acquired over a very long acting career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you...” Watch below:
These promos, leveraging the star power of Deadpool, Wolverine, and June Squibb, hilariously emphasize the importance of turning off phones during movie screenings. Whether it’s the brash and direct approach of Deadpool and Wolverine or the charming and comedic reminder from June Squibb, audiences are reminded to respect the theater experience for everyone.
Deadpool & Wolverine open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26. Thelma comes to theaters at the end of June . So, next time you head to the theater, remember to TURN OFF YOUR PHONES. Enjoy the movie!
