SAG-AFTRA congratulates WGA, maintains resolve

In a show of solidarity and admiration, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has congratulated the Writers Guild of America (WGA) on their momentous achievement – reaching a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The tentative agreement came late Sunday night after an impressive 146 days of unwavering strength, resilience, and unity on the picket lines, making it one of the most notable moments in the history of Hollywood strikes.

The WGA’s display of solidarity during their strike garnered widespread recognition, with SAG-AFTRA joining in celebrating their dedicated efforts. While SAG-AFTRA eagerly anticipates a thorough review of the specifics of the WGA and AMPTP’s tentative agreement, the union maintains an unswerving commitment to securing the necessary and equitable terms for its own members.

The actors’ union released a statement on X. “SAG-AFTRA congratulates the WGA on reaching a tentative agreement with the AMPTP after 146 days of incredible strength, resiliency, and solidarity on the picket lines. While we look forward to reviewing the WGA and AMPTP’s tentative agreement, we remain committed to achieving the necessary terms for our members.

Since the day the WGA strike began, SAG-AFTRA members have stood alongside the writers on the picket lines. We remain on strike in our TV/Theatrical contract and continue to urge the studio and streamer CEOs and the AMPTP to return to the table and make the fair deal that our members deserve and demand.”

REELated:

While picketing has been suspended for WGA members, the message from SAG-AFTRA to the CEOs of studios and streaming platforms, as well as the AMPTP, remains resolute: a call to return to the negotiation table and engage in constructive dialogue aimed at achieving a deal that not only reflects the deserved compensation but also fulfills the demands of its members.

The Writers Guild, in a show of solidarity, has encouraged members to picket with SAG-AFTRA while details of the new deal are hammered out.

As the curtain falls on the WGA strike, the spotlight now turns to SAG-AFTRA, where the pursuit of fairness and equity continues to be center stage. Their return to the table with AMPTP remains undetermined at the time of publishing.
