Rob McElhenney takes baseball across the pond for London Series

Rob McElhenney

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, who is known for his passion for Philly teams, is now taking his love for baseball to the U.K. in a collaboration between Major League Baseball (MLB) and Wrexham AFC, the Welsh soccer team he co-owns with Ryan Reynolds.

To drum up excitement for MLB’s 2024 London Series in June, which will feature McElhenney’s beloved Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets, the baseball mascots teamed up with Wrex the Dragon at a Wrexham game in March. The sight of baseball mascots mingling with soccer fans sparked both delight and confusion among spectators.

During a recent home match, McElhenney brought his beloved Phillie Phanatic along with Mr. and Mrs. Met to the ground. Created by McElhenney’s More Better Industries, a version of the ad is set to air during MLB broadcasts on FS1, ESPN, and MLB TV. Watch below:

“I didn’t know the first thing about football,” McElhenney said about his soccer knowledge before he and Reynolds purchased the team. He added, “It’s a childhood dream to partner with Major League Baseball and share my love of America’s Favorite Pastime with the world.”

With McElhenney’s innovative approach, the collaboration between MLB and Wrexham AFC promises to add a unique twist to the upcoming London Series, bridging the gap between two beloved sports on an international stage.
