Marvel debuts new Captain America: Brave New World trailer

Captain America

Marvel Studios wowed fans at the first-ever Brazil D23 fan event this weekend by unveiling a full-length trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.

This highly anticipated film marks Anthony Mackie’s first big-screen appearance as the new Captain America, following his role in the 2021 Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (F&WS). In addition to Brave New World, Marvel treated audiences to an exclusive look and new trailer for Thunderbolts, another upcoming film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Phase Five.

Directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox), Captain America: Brave New World is the fifth film in the MCU’s Phase Five and expands on events from both F&WS and 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The film’s storyline begins with Sam Wilson (Mackie) meeting newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford, who makes his MCU debut. Following this encounter, Sam becomes embroiled in an international crisis, unraveling a sinister global conspiracy that threatens to plunge the world into chaos. Watch the action below:

The latest trailer, which follows a teaser that premiered in July, dives into the escalating tension. It opens with Sam visiting Isaiah in prison, with Isaiah appearing uncertain of the charges against him. We see him implicated in an assassination attempt on President Ross. “Whatever this is, Cap, be careful,” Isaiah warns, as the trailer reveals a terrorist plot involving multiple shooters and a deeply embedded conspiracy.

The stakes intensify as Sam receives a cryptic phone call, asking, “Do you ever wonder who’s playing who?” hinting at a mastermind working to manipulate events from the shadows. The trailer ends with an electrifying clash between Sam and Red Hulk, the transformed alter ego of Thaddeus Ross, suggesting a climactic showdown awaits. Watch the action below:

The impressive cast features familiar faces, including Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, the president’s daughter, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, both reprising roles from The Incredible Hulk. Carl Lumbley returns as Isaiah Bradley, the Korean War veteran introduced in F&WS who endured years of secret experimentation with the Super Soldier Serum. Isaiah’s powerful conversation with Sam about the weight of Captain America’s shield resonated deeply, especially given Isaiah’s painful history.

New additions to the cast include Rosa Salazar as Rachel Leighton, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, and Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph. Giancarlo Esposito also joins as Sidewinder, an economics professor whose powers of teleportation—granted by an Egyptian god—set him on a criminal path as leader of The Serpent Society in the comics.

With Captain America: Brave New World slated for release on February 14, 2025, Marvel is building excitement for a thrilling chapter that promises high-stakes action, complex characters, and intense moral dilemmas for Sam Wilson’s Captain America.
