Here’s a rundown of mid-season finales on Chicago Fire, Med & P.D.

It’s that time of year again! No, we’re not talking about the incessant Christmas songs being played everywhere you go, it’s time for One Chicago to take their winter break, which means the mid-season finales have left us hanging in suspense.

We’ve got a quick rundown of what happened in each mid-season finale.

Chicago Med: This Could Be the Start of Something New
We have been emotionally preparing ourselves for Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) to leave the show and this was his final episode in front of the cameras. After there was some worry that April Sexton’s (Yaya DaCosta) dad was too ill to walk her down the aisle the medical professionals at Chicago Med figured out what was wrong with him and let him know that it could be easily corrected with surgery after the ceremony. Before tying the knot, Choi takes Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) aside to tell her his future plans to launch a mobile clinic benefiting underserved communities. After the couple confided in each other that they were both nervous, they were married in a beautiful ceremony with all their friends and colleagues in attendance. The couple departed in their mobile clinic and Dr. Hannah Asher (Jesse Schram) caught the bride’s bouquet.

Chicago Fire: Nemesis
After Carver (Jake Lockett) pushed past a toll bridge operator in order to lower the bridge and save a motorcyclist, the toll bridge operator filed an official complaint against him, claiming he was assaulted, and the incident was investigated by the Internal Affairs Division. The IAD investigator was none other than Emma (Caitlin Carver). It looked as if Emma was going to end Carver’s career, but she agreed that he didn’t assault anyone and before she left, she told Violet (Hanako Greensmith) that it’s good to have “friends” in IAD.

Cruz (Joe Minoso) and his wife officially adopt Javi and before they can all celebrate, they are all called to a massive police presence for a barricaded suspect where, Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Carver, and Mouch (Christian Stolte) run into the building in full bomb squad gear with a member of the bomb squad to help an injured officer who has a rocket propelled grenade stuck in his leg. They were able to remove the grenade, but as soon as it was removed, it exploded, giving us an intense cliffhanger, and leaving us to wonder if any of them will survive.

Chicago P.D.: Proof of Burden
Voight (Jason Beghe) confronted Chief O’Neal (Michael Gaston) accusing his son Sean (Jefferson White) of human trafficking, murder, and destruction of evidence. The team spent the episode collecting evidence against Sean and his father spent most of the episode in denial, attempting to keep his son out of prison by hiring a lawyer and going as far as asking the DA not to pursue a case against him. By the end of the episode, Chief O’Neal came to terms with who his son truly is and tried to kill him. It appeared as if the two fought over the gun. The Chief was killed and Sean was gravely injured. Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Voight found the two and Upton chose not to help Voight save Sean’s life. She didn’t even want Voight to call it in until he died, but Voight snapped into action and did what he was supposed to do. Upton was truly disgusted by him and was still traumatized by the sight of a truck full of girls who were in medical distress when they found them just before arriving to the scene of the father and son in a pool of each other’s blood. She would have preferred to watch Sean die right there instead of Voight saving his life so he could face the consequences for his actions. Of course, Voight won’t tell anyone about her deliberate inaction.

One Chicago will return on January 4, 2023 with all new episodes. Although Jesse Lee Soffer has left Chicago P.D. and Brian Tee has left Chicago Med, both will return to direct an episode on their shows this season.
