RadicalMedia has signed Glenn Kaino, the boundary-pushing conceptual artist, filmmaker, and media executive whose practice spans museums, brands, and mass culture.
Represented in the art world by Pace Gallery, Kaino has exhibited internationally and created large-scale public works that often draw connections to film and media. He served as Chief Creative Officer at Napster 2.0 and EVP/Head of Digital at OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, experience that underpins his cross-platform approach.
“My work manifests through storytelling across all mediums,” Kaino said. “I’ve created projects with museums, galleries, people, and brands, and each is part of the same constellation of my concerns. Joining Radical is an opportunity to expand that continuum and collaborate with partners to make meaning from the experiences we create.”
Kaino co-directed “With Drawn Arms” (Tribeca), a feature documentary on Tommie Smith’s 1968 Black Power salute, work that ran parallel to his sculptural installations now at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and consumer collaborations with Wheaties and Beats by Dre. He was also a creative force behind Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself (Hulu) after a decade of collaboration onstage.
Recent and notable projects include the immersive forest installation “A Forest for the Trees” (with The Atlantic), “In the Light of a Shadow” at MASS MoCA, the Disney-acquired short film Hoops, Hopes, & Dreams, and the VR piece “Aki’s Market” for the Japanese American National Museum. Kaino represented the U.S. at the 13th Cairo Biennale and appeared in the 2004 Whitney Biennial. Upcoming civic works include public monuments for the LAX Metro Transit Center Station and the Intuit Dome, with additional commissions at the new Burbank Airport and 6th Street Viaduct.
“For us, there’s never been a boundary between making art and making work for brands—it’s all storytelling at the highest level,” said Frank Scherma, President, RadicalMedia. “Glenn has lived that philosophy his entire career. His vision and versatility are a perfect match for what we do.”
The partnership builds on current collaborations: RadicalMedia is developing and producing two of Kaino’s forthcoming projects—a feature film and an immersive performance—to be announced soon.
Reel 360 News wishes Glenn all the best at RadicalMedia.
