Cameras have officially begun rolling on the highly anticipated, and unscathed by the Zaslav regime, Joker: Folie à Deux. Now, director Todd Phillips has shared the first look at star Joaquin Phoenix as the returning Arthur Fleck.
Set within the grim confines of Arkham Asylum after murdering talk show host, Murray Franklin played by Robert De Niro, Joker: Folie à Deux picks up right after Arthur’s arrest and explores his eventual romance with Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. The pic below features Arthur getting a shave. The shaving cream is probably meant to evoke memories of his look as the “Clown Prince of Crime.”
Not much more is known about the plot of the musical sequel. What we do know is Zazie Beetz is back as Sophie Dumond. Joining her are Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland.
With any luck, Phillips plans to also share a shot of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn soon. We don’t know if Phillips will go the comic book route and introduce her as Dr. Harleen Quinzel.
Back in 2019, Joker became the first R-Rated movie to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. It also earned 12 Oscar nominations. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released in theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after Joker debuted.
