Aris has officially signed director Michael Miller for U.S. and Canadian representation. With over 20 years of experience in film production, Miller has built a reputation for his sharp comedic sensibility, expert pacing, and ability to craft nuanced performances.
His portfolio includes collaborations with major brands such as BMW, Cheetos, Doritos, Salesforce, Liberty Mutual, and Xfinity. Most recently, he directed projects for IBM and Embodied under Aris.
“We love Michael’s comedic voice, his mastery of dialogue, and his impeccable timing,” says Greg Bassenian, Managing Director/Executive Producer at Aris. “With his combined experience as a director and editor, he’s a true multi-threat talent who understands how to shape narratives that connect with today’s audiences. He’s also well-versed in the ever-evolving social media landscape, making him an ideal creative partner for our team.”
Miller, who has been collaborating with Aris on a freelance basis, is thrilled to make the partnership official. “Aris already feels like home,” he says. “Greg’s enthusiasm and down-to-earth approach make this an easy decision. I know I’m in good hands here, and I’m excited to continue creating impactful work together.”
From Camera Operator to Comedy Director
Miller’s journey into filmmaking began in Los Angeles, where he worked as an assistant camera operator with aspirations of becoming a director of photography. A move to San Francisco broadened his opportunities, leading him to create content for ad agencies such as Edelman SF, FCB West, Teak, and DDB, where he worked on campaigns for Starbucks, Jansport, and Google.
His career took a pivotal turn at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, where he joined the agency’s Social Plus department, collaborating on social-first campaigns for Xfinity, Soda Stream, and Frito Lay (Cheetos, Doritos, Pepsi). His talent for storytelling quickly became evident, earning him a directorial role and the chance to helm major campaigns for San Diego Zoo and BMW.
Comedy has always been Miller’s creative anchor. Inspired by the humor of the ‘90s and iconic campaigns like Goodby’s “Got Milk?”, he has honed his ability to blend sharp dialogue, visual wit, and impeccable comedic timing. “Casting and timing are everything,” Miller explains. “One of my favorite parts of the process is working with talent—getting their take on a character, throwing them a curveball, and seeing where the performance goes.”
Beyond working with actors, Miller deeply values collaboration with cinematographers, editors, and production crews, recognizing the crucial role each plays in shaping a project. “Filmmaking is a team effort,” he says. “I’ve learned from the best, and I have a deep respect for the craft and dedication that go into making something great.”
When he’s not directing, Miller enjoys an adventurous lifestyle with his family—dirt biking, skiing, mountain climbing, hiking, and even building a treehouse with a zipline on their four-acre property.
With his signature comedic style and dynamic storytelling approach, Miller is set to bring fresh creative energy to Aris and its roster of top-tier clients.
Reel 360 News wishes Michael the best of luck at Aris.
