Award-Winning director Casper Balslev joins Institute

Casper Balslev

Acclaimed Danish filmmaker Casper Balslev has signed with Institute for U.S. commercial representation, bringing his vibrant, genre-fluid storytelling to the company’s already stacked directorial roster.

Known for his signature blend of naturalism and cinematic flair, Balslev fuses the everyday with the surreal to create emotionally resonant and visually arresting work. His intuitive, documentary-influenced style often feels spontaneous yet precise—a result of his early roots in street photography, fashion, and photojournalism, which he studied at the Danish College of Journalism.

Balslev first gained international recognition with his striking shorts for fashion brand Han Kjøbenhavn, earning a coveted spot in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase in 2013. Since then, his commercial career has flourished with high-profile campaigns for Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, IKEA, Heineken, LEGO, Vodafone, Carlsberg, and The Royal Danish Theatre, among others—many of which have taken home Cannes Lions and Eurobest honors.

His collaborators include top-tier global agencies such as Wieden+Kennedy, Mother, Publicis, Forsman & Bodenfors, and NORD DDB. In 2014, Balslev co-founded the multi-award-winning production company New-Land, which now operates out of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and London.

Beyond advertising, Balslev has directed music videos for Alt-J and Marina & The Diamonds, with his short films screening at global festivals. His feature documentary Elena’s Inner Fire premiered at CPH:DOX in 2021.

“I’ve been a fan of Lauren Greenfield’s work for a long time, and I feel a strong affinity with the other directors on the roster,” said Balslev. “We’re living in a time when there is a need for authenticity. Brands, agencies, and audiences all are craving it, and I love collaborating with the best creative minds on impactful concepts. I’m excited to do just that with Institute.”

“Casper and I have known one another for many years, and I’ve always admired his dedication to truthful, visually authentic storytelling,” said Tori Palmatier, managing director at Institute. “His expansive and creative body of work transcends genres, yet holds a strong and cohesive visual voice, and a passion for connecting to audiences through genuine human emotion. We love his world-building and are thrilled to be working with him.”

In addition to Institute, Casper Balslev is represented by Akkurat in Germany, Fledge in Belgium, Frenzy in France, and New-Land in Scandinavia and the UK.

Reel 360 News wishes Casper the best of luck at Institute.
