As devastating wildfires continue to displace residents across Los Angeles County, Airbnb.org is partnering with 211 LA to provide free temporary housing to those forced to evacuate or who have lost their homes. This effort is made possible through funding from Airbnb.org and the generosity of Airbnb hosts who offer their homes at no cost or a discounted rate.

Airbnb.org specializes in providing free emergency housing during times of crisis. To date, the organization has delivered over 1.6 million nights of emergency stays for more than 250,000 people affected by disasters. Its efforts are supported by funding from Airbnb, private donors, and hosts who waive fees or offer discounts to those in need.

The nonprofit collaborates with local organizations to identify individuals and families in urgent need of temporary housing. For the current crisis, 211 LA is assisting in connecting affected residents from impacted areas, including Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sylmar, with available accommodations through Airbnb.org.

211 LA connects Los Angeles County residents with essential health and human services. Offering 24/7 multilingual support, the nonprofit plays a critical role in assisting individuals and families during emergencies.

Airbnb.org has previously offered temporary housing to individuals impacted by natural disasters such as Hurricanes Helene and Milton, wildfires in San Bernardino, California, and Jasper, Canada, as well as floods in Brazil and the earthquake in Japan’s Noto Peninsula. The organization’s model allows it to respond quickly to crises, working with nonprofits and governments to assist affected populations.

How to Help

Hosts interested in providing free or discounted stays to wildfire evacuees can visit Airbnb.org to learn more about how to sign up. Airbnb waives all service fees for hosts and guests involved in the program, and hosts are provided with AirCover, which includes damage protection and liability insurance for every booking.

To request temporary housing, displaced residents can complete an intake form through 211 LA, which serves as Los Angeles County’s designated 2-1-1 information and referral service. This form helps 211 LA identify those in need and match them with available free or discounted stays facilitated by Airbnb.org.

This initiative underscores the importance of community-driven efforts in times of crisis. With the collaboration of Airbnb.org, 211 LA, and generous hosts, displaced residents have access to safe and temporary accommodations as they navigate this challenging time.
