Aaaaaah! It’s the bloody new Scream 5 trailer

Scream
(Ghostface is back)

Halloween is coming fast and furious and so is the return of famous movie slashers. First, we had Candyman, come back with his bees and hook from Universal. Chucky, the TV series will debut on USA tonight. This week, will see the return of Michael Myers in Blumhouse’s Halloween Kills. Now Ghostface is coming as the twenty-five-year-old Scream franchise comes back to life.

It’s like the 80s and 90s all over again.

Inspired by the real-life case of the Gainesville Ripper and his passion for horror films including 1978’s Halloween, the original Scream (1996) was written by Writer and Producer, Kevin Williamson.

With its dark humor and nod to slasher clichés, Scream became an immediate hit, revitalizing the slasher genre in the 1990s, which was considered to be almost dead following an influx of direct-to-video titles and numerous sequels to established horror franchises of the 1970s and 1980s.

Scream 5 takes place 25 years after the Wes Craven original introduced us to a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Of course there’s new key art:

Neve Campbell (“Sidney Prescott”), Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) and David Arquette (“Dewey Riley”) return to their iconic roles in Scream alongside Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar.

Both Candyman and Halloween (2018) were well-received critically and at the domestic Box Office, earning $60.1 million and $255.6 million respectively. If Ghostface kills at the Box Office, can we be that far away from Freddy and Jason slashing their way to a come back?

Scream 5 opens in theaters January 11, 2022.
