Tomorrow morning at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, McGarryBowen chief creative officer Ned Crowley will launch a new event format with a presentation titled, “A Bloody Mess — How Advertising Saved My Movie and My Sanity.”
Crowley will describe the four-month sabbatical that he took from his professional advertising job and devoted to completing a feature film on a small budget in early 2015.
According to McGarryBowen, who is hosting Crowley’s appearance, he chose a time of “tumultuous agency change and business upheaval” to make the foray into filmmaking.
(Cannes, France — 22 June 2017) FCB took home three more Silver Lions and two Bronze on the third night of the Cannes Lions festival. There were five award ceremonies held in – Entertainment, Entertainment for Music, Design, Media and Product Design.
It seems odd that a French firm would poop on the party known as the Cannes International Festival of Creativity, but here we are.
According to an AdWeek report, a recent memo circulated within the Paris-based holding company Publicis announced that the firm’s 2018 cost cutting strategy will include “eliminating all award/trade shows for the next year.”
Presumably, the no-show declaration applies to Leo Burnett, Burrell Communications, Digitas and Lapiz, which are among the dozens of subsidiaries in the Publics network.

On Friday, McDonald’s AOR We Are Unlimited announced that former FCB Chicago SVP/ECD, Max Geraldo had been tapped to serve as Executive Creative Director. Joining him is Bruno Guimaraes, who left DigitasLBI Chicago to serve as Creative Director.
Both creatives will report to the agency’s Chief Creative Officer Toygar Bazarkaya. These are Bazarkaya’s first hires since joining the agency two months ago, and builds out the creative leadership team.
Geraldo has over 50 Cannes Lions to his credit including the Mobile Grand Prix.
