McGarryBowen brings NYC to life for US Open campaign

The US Open’s new “You In?” campaign is an ode to New York City, courtesy of McGarryBowen Chicago.

The buildings, bridges and food trucks of the Big Apple form a literal nighttime backdrop for footage of the event’s legendary action. As players and fans light up walls throughout the city, a voiceover declares, “Only New York can throw a party this big.”

Advertising agencies are digging SUM1’s new digs

Shortly after Sum1 opened four years ago, the audio post and sound design boutique became known as an unofficial extension of the advertising agencies it served. Since moving into a customized studio at 180 N. Michigan Ave. earlier this year, that reputation is now just a few steps away from most of Chicago’s largest shops.

“No more hailing a ride, generating an expense report and producing a paper trail to get to and from our studios,” says producer / sound designer Shawn Ballman.

Nimble Media creates 1,000 videos for elite universities

Director/producer John Yaworsky recently completed one of the biggest homework assignments of his life: 1,000 video pieces for Georgetown and Johns Hopkins Universities.

“I learned a lot,” says the owner of Wilmette’s Nimble Digital Media.

Over a span of 33 months, Yaworsky and his team provided strategy and created online content to supplement 70 graduate level digital courses at both of the elite Eastern institutions. Among the subjects they covered were technology management, ethics, sports industry management and real estate.

“Raising Adults” to premiere at Chop Shop June 7

Brittany Wagner and Kait Staley — who co-created, co-wrote and co-star in the new dark comedy webseries, Raising Adults — are not afraid to shoot scenes that feature at least one of them using the bathroom. And they’re the mature members of the cast.

“The series follows two young girls raising their crazy, disabled parents,” explains Britt. “It’s all about their struggle to get by, reluctantly taking care of the ones they love.”

LC, Fram scold consumers in new “Frampa” campaign

Laughlin Constable helped oil filter giant Fram connect with young adults by hiring a 70-year-old pitchman to call them “numnuts.”

“We wanted to channel that sort of sage old advisor we all kind of grew up with,” explains creative director Jon Laughlin.

Breaking Bad actor Jonathan Banks stars as the title character in Frampa, an online campaign LC created for Fram’s Extra Guard oil filters. In each of the series’ four spots, he shows tough but tender disapproval for anyone who cannot competently change the oil in their cars.

Quriosity captures genuine “Big Moments” for Purina

Quriosity Productions spent days preparing to shoot Purina’s Big Moments campaign for St. Louis agency CheckMark Communications. But when the cameras started rolling, it all came down to a girl and a dog who had known each other less than two days.

“Purina wanted real moments of kids,” explains Quriosity founder and executive producer Qadree Holmes. “They love genuine honesty.”
