“Sick To Death,” edited by Ilko Davidov, world premiere

Ilko Davidov and Maggie Hadleigh-West

In January 2015, Chicago-based editor and CIMMfest cofounder Ilko Davidov temporarily relocated to New Orleans, where he spent several weeks editing Director Maggie Hadleigh-West’s feature documentary, Sick to Death!

Sick to Death! includes a largely first-person account of the grief that Hadleigh-West suffered from a common thyroid problem. The descriptions of pain are complemented by an analysis and condemnation of the health care and pharmaceutical industries that failed to properly treat her condition, and the food industry that worsened it.

Undercover footage in examination rooms, opinions from various experts and testimonials of others thyroid sufferers complement the narrative.

Davidov met Hadleigh-West when her Brooklyn-based hip hop documentary, Player Hating, A Love Story, screened at CIMMfest in 2011. Regarding his friend’s current film, he says that it covers “a tough subject.”

Sick to Death! screens at the New Orleans Film Festival on Saturday, October 14, 2017 @ 6:30pm at the Broad Theater in Mid City, New Orleans. For more information, click here.
