Utopic editor Kat Pryor recently cut the short film “Parallels” for Cramer-Krasselt/Porsche Motor Sports. It features Major League pitcher C. J. Wilson (L.A.Angels, Texas Rangers) narrating the dual dream he’s had since a young boy of becoming both a professional baseball player and a race car driver.
The 2:10 minute film broke on Porsche Motorsports’ website last week, teasing Wilson’s team’s participation in the 24 Hour Daytona race and expanding the diverse body of work Pryor has created for Porsche which includes spots Pre-Game and Forever Amazing.
Pryor wove scenes from live action footage of Wilson training for both sports, taking Porsche fans behind the scenes of his dual training routines and illustrating the visual and mental parallels between being a professional ball player and race car driver.
Pryor culled her final cut from more than five hours of interview footage shot by director Sam Ciaramitaro for US-based ADDigital.
“Parallels” is also inspirational, as it encourages viewers to adopt Wilson and Porsche’s ethos of setting high goals, being disciplined and strategic and, above all, pursuing one’s dreams.
“This is really a visual narrative explaining the connection between C.J.’s desire to be a race car driver while he was developing his baseball career,” says Pryor.
She balances the parallel storylines with match-cut moments, such as Wilson pitching and a Porsche zooming by, and a Tai-Chi workout that was intercut with sexy shots of the car.
“This one was a dream to put together to show C.J.’s passion for Porsche,” says Pryor, who has been a Utopic editor since 2012.
